An Autographed 8 1/2" x 10" [22 x 25 cm] Guestbook Page (Learn More)

Clifton Webb guestbook page. Clifton Webb was one of Hollywood's most "confirmed bachelors" (he never married, and he lived with his mother until her passing, when he was quite old). That didn't stop him from throwing great parties! On February 21, 1937, he had a party where singer Grace Moore was the guest of honor, and he had a "guestbook" that the guests signed, and this page says "Feb. 21st/37 - for Grace Moore" at the top, and under it is Grace Moore's signature, followed by signatures of fifteen other attendees, including Gladys Swarthout, Beatrice Lillie, Elsa Maxwell (the famed party giver/host), Reginald Gardiner, Judith Anderson, and others that we can't quickly identify (but likely you can with a little studying!). After Mr. Webb's passing, this page was removed from his guestbook and it was auctioned in 2006, and it comes with the letter of authenticity that describes this page and guarantees it is authentic by PSA/DNA. Of course, Clifton Webb was a well known character actor who achieved stardom at an advanced age! He was born in 1889, and he was primarily a stage actor, appearing in a small number of movies, starting in silents. In 1944, at the age of 55 he achieved stardom with his role as Waldo Lydecker in Laura. He parlayed that fame into starring roles in movies, most notably in the series of Mr. Belvedere movies, where he was a male nanny. He was gay, but that remained a "secret" throughout his life, and he lived with, and was devoted to, his beloved mother throughout most of his adult life, and they were inseparable. When she died in 1960, he went into a major decline, both mentally and physically, and he made only one more movie.

Important Added Info: This cut album page has been personally autographed (signed) by SIXTEEN people: Gladys Swarthout, Beatrice Lillie, Elsa Maxwell (the famed party giver/host), Reginald Gardiner, Judith Anderson, and others that we can't quickly identify (but likely you can with a little studying!). Also note that the item comes with a "letter of authenticity" from PSA/DNA Authentication Services.

Note that this item was consigned to us by an individual who owned a company that made movies and videos with famous celebrities in the 1980s and 1990s. The owner of the company would have the celebrities sign items from their famous films, and he also had correspondence with many famous celebrities which he saved. In addition, he would sometimes ask celebrities he came in contact with if they had signed items from other stars that they would sell to him, and he purchased a number of items that way. He also would purchase unsigned items from the famed Larry Edmunds Bookshop in Los Angeles or from other reputable Hollywood book stores and poster shops (to have the celebrities sign), and while he was doing that he would also purchase some of their signed items. So all of these autographed items we are auctioning were either obtained in person, obtained from celebrities who obtained them in person, or obtained from reputable Hollywood book stores, and we feel certain that the autograph(s) on this item is authentic (as is true of all the signed items we are currently auctioning), and we give every buyer 30 days in which to review what they purchased and they can return any item as long as it is within 30 days of the end of the auction.

Condition: very good. The page was removed from a guestbook, but is otherwise in nice condition.
