An Original Vintage Theatrical Window Card Movie Poster (Learn More)

Curly Top, the 1935 Irving Cummings juvenile musical starring Shirley Temple ("She Sings, She Dances, She Charms"), John Boles, Rochelle Hudson, Jane Darwell, and Rafaela Ottiano. Note that this movie was based on a play and novel by Jean Webster from 1912. It was made into a silent movie in 1919 starring Mary Pickford, and was remade as a sound film in 1931 with Janet Gaynor, and then was significantly altered so that Shirley Temple could play the lead in this movie, and then was remade with Fred Astaire and Leslie Caron in 1955. Obviously, it is extremely unlikely that this plot will ever be used again, because in today's world, a story about a middle aged man falling in love with an 18 year old that he "adopts" is very inappropriate! Also note that this was the last movie Shirley Temple made for Fox Films. Her next movie was made after it merged with 20th Century Pictures, and became 20th Century-Fox. During that time, Fox's number one star, Will Rogers died in a plane crash, and surprisingly, Shirley Temple became the studio's new number one star!
