An Original Vintage Unfolded French World War I Poster (measures 19 3/4" x 25 3/4" [50 x 65 cm]) (Learn More) L'Attente (literally translates to "Waiting"), the 1910s French World War I (WWI) war poster featuring Henri Royer art of a young woman wearing traditional French (Alsatian) dress and holding a three color cockade. Likely this would have been posted in French barracks to give soldiers a clear reminder of what it was (and who) they were fighting for. It may also refer to the Franco-Prussian War (1870-1871) in which Germany was victorious and France was forced to cede Alsace and northern Lorraine. Once World War I broke out, recovery of the two lost provinces became the top French war goal. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Henri Royer Condition: very good to fine.
