A 1944 Re-Release Theatrical Folded Style B Half-Sheet Movie Poster (1/2sh; measures 22" x 28" [56 x 71 cm]) (Learn More)

Cecil B. DeMille's The Sign of the Cross, the classic 1932 Cecil B. DeMille early Christians-vs-Romans religious romantic love triangle action adventure epic ("A picture which will proudly lead all the entertainments the world has ever seen"; "Superb road-show dramatic spectacle"; "The First Big Spectacle of Talking Pictures"; "From the play by Wilson Barrett") starring Fredric March (as Marcus Superbus), Elissa Landi, Claudette Colbert (as Empress Poppaea), Charles Laughton (as Emperor Nero), Ian Keith, Tommy Conlon, Vivian Tobin, and a "Cast of Thousands"

If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that Paramount re-released this movie in 1944. In order to make it more relevant to World War II (WWII) audiences, DeMille shot a new "prologue" that took place aboard a military plane, where the men on board get into a conversation about religious tolerance, and then one launches into a story of the early Christians and their persecution, and then the 1932 movie is shown, as if in a flashback! Curiously, the movie ends without an epilogue, and the entire "prologue" feels very pasted on and superfluous. The advertising for the 1944 version looks very similar to that of the 1932 version, but the words "Modernized Production" are added. Note also that this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube.

Condition: good. The poster has several vertical and horizontal creases scattered in various areas and some fine creases throughout. It has a diagonal crease at left that extends into a 2-3" tear at lower left and there are a few light scuff marks in some areas. Despite these defects, the rare half-sheet (we have only auctioned three in all our years of auctioning) is still colorful and is "all there" and it could be restored and paperbacked and it would look great, but please bear in mind its defects and cost of restoration before placing a bid.
