An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Captain Tugboat Annie, the 1945 Phil Rosen seafaring sailor comedy ("Based on characters created in the Saturday Evening Post stories by Norman Reilly Raine") starring Jane Darwell (in the title role as Captain Tugboat Annie), Edgar Kennedy, Charles Gordon, Mantan Moreland, Pamela Blake, Hardie Albright, H.B. Warner, and Saundra Berkova. Note that there was a movie "Tugboat Annie" in 1933 with Marie Dressler in the lead role, and it was a big hit. MGM would have surely made a sequel, but Dressler passed away the following year. In 1940, they tried to revive the series with its sequel, "Tugboat Annie Sails Again", seven years later, with Marjorie Rambeau taking over the lead role. It likely was not very successful, because there were no more sequels, and it was not until 1945 that MGM tried yet again, this time with Jane Darwell in the lead role in this movie.
