Date Sold 10/11/2016Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. 6 1958 Re-Release Theatrical Folded Italian Photobusta Movie Posters (13x18 pbustas; measure 13 1/4" x 18" [34 x 46 cm]) (Learn More) Le Shiavedi Cartagine (released in the U.S. in 1960 as "The Sword and the Cross"), the 1956 Guido Brignone Italian/Mexican/Spanish Roman religious melodrama ("an unforgettable spectacle of marvels and miracles"; "SEE masses of the faithful crucified on the flaming hills"; "SEE the decadent splendor of the Roman orgies"; "SEE the wild chariot race of the Roman destroyers"; "See the noble captive beauties sold on the slave block") starring Gianna Maria Canale, Jorge Mistral, Marisa Allasio, Ana Luisa Peluffo, and Ruben Rojo. Note that, at the same time this movie was being made in Italy, another movie, "La Spada e la Croce", was also being made. This movie, "Le Schiave di Cartagine", was released in the U.S. in 1960 as "The Sword and the Cross", and later in 1960 "La Spada e la Croce" was released as "Mary Magdalene", and it appears that sometimes the two movies have been confused (both about early Christians in Rome, both made in Italy in the late 1950s, and both released in the U.S. in 1960). NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that these are "country of origin" posters for this partially Italian movie! Also note that these posters were folded at one time but have been laying flat for a long time and they will be sent rolled in a tube. Note that it is difficult to accurately date Italian posters, and some unmarked re-release posters can be extremely difficult to distinguish from first releases, so please bear that in mind before you place a bid. We used our best information to date this poster, but we can't always guarantee that the Italian posters we sell are not from an unmarked re-release, but this will only prove to be true in a very tiny number of cases. Note that this item (and others we are auctioning in this set of auctions) come to us from the estate of Lee Sanders. Mr. Sanders was a nationally recognized projectionist, film poster collector, and union activist who passed away last year, and the net proceeds from the sale of his varied and eclectic collection will be donated to promote film studies at the Besant School of Happy Valley in Ojai, Ca. Condition: good to very good. Learn More about condition grades
