A 1937 Re-release Vintage Theatrical Folded One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41") (Learn More)

Shadows of the Orient, the 1935 Burt P. Lynwood immigrant Asian smuggling gambling romantic crime action melodrama ("Original story by L.E. Heifetz"; Esther Ralston is a socialite who is arrested in Sidney Blackmer's Asian gambling casino; Blackmer gets her out of trouble, but expects her to help him with his immigrant smuggling operation and illegal gambling casino; Regis Toomey is an immigration agent who breaks up Blackmer's schemes and wins Ralston's hand!) starring Esther Ralston, Regis Toomey, J. Farrell MacDonald, Oscar Apfel, and Sidney Blackmer. Note that this movie was made in 1935 and released by Empire Films, but we have never ever seen or heard of any paper from that release (it was reviewed in the Motion Picture Herald in 1936, so it apparently DID get some sort of release somewhere, but it was apparently a very limited release). In 1937, Monogram took the unusual step of releasing it as a brand new movie, with a nice advertising campaign, and the poster we are offering here is the very first we have ever seen from the 1937 Monogram release. Technically, 1937 Monogram items are re-releases, but 1935 Empire Films items don't exist, and they would look completely different from the 1937 release posters.

If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.

Condition: good. The poster is fragile and would greatly benefit from being linenbacked. But it is "all there", so after proper restoration, it will look great, and there will be little paint restoration anywhere in the image.
