Thompson"; loosely based on the story Miss Thompson by W. Somerset Maugham; about a prostitute who has to leave Harlem and ends up on a tropical island, where she entices good men to go bad) starring Francine Everette (in the title role as Gertie La Rue), Inez Newell, July Jones, Don Wilson, and Katherine Moore. Note that sadly, the director of this movie was handcuffed by having almost no budget at all, especially difficult when you were trying to create the illusion of filming on a real tropical island! Reviewers say that while the movie is entertaining and that star Francine Everett is terrific, the production values are so low that they severely hurt the movie. Strangest of all is director Williams playing a female fortune teller, and while he does wear a dress, he did not shave off his mustache, and he speaks in his usual deep voice! We wonder if perhaps the actress intended to play that role did not show up and that Williams stepped in to take over her part, with minimal effort!
