(Learn More) Saul Bass was an American artist and director from the 1940s to the 1990s. Saul is famous for his artwork on many great movie posters and being an Academy Award winning director. Some of his works include: Exodus, Anatomy of a Murder, Vertigo, Bonjour Tristesse, Saint Joan, and the Man with the Golden Arm Artist: Saul Bass Important Added Info: Note that when the Frontier Hotel in Las Vegas wanted a distinctive menu for their about to open "Venus Room", they hired Saul Bass to design the cover that showed that the restaurant is "out of this world" (and Bass has a printed credit in the bottom left of the cover). The image on this is similar to ones that Saul Bass and Albert Kallis designed for the movie posters for "On the Threshold of Space". Included with the menu is a 7" x 9 1/4" news photo that shows Robert Young and his wife Betty at the opening of the restaurant, looking at this very same menu while eating in this restaurant (the back of the photo has a snipe from King Features explaining about the photo and it is also dated "AUG 9 1955". Note that this is one of fifteen Saul Bass related items we were consigned from a very longtime Saul Bass collector. While Saul Bass did some incredibly memorable movie posters (including Vertigo and Anatomy of a Murder), much of his work only appeared in print ads, often in exhibitor magazines, and locating those ads (either in the magazine, or cut out of them) is incredibly difficult, because the magazines only went to theater owners, and virtually no one saved them! This is a great opportunity to obtain extremely rare Saul Bass items. Condition: very good. The menu has minor wear around the edges and the photo has a few creases.
