100 Original Vintage Theatrical 8" x 10" [20 x 25 cm] Movie Stills (Learn More)

Tillie's Punctured Romance, the 1928 A. Edward Sutherland silent circus screwball comedy (produced by Al Christie; about the ringmaster of a circus, played by W.C. Fields, who schemes to get the owner of the circus into the lion cage, so he will be killed and the ringmaster will take over, and later, he ends up using the circus animals to help the troops in World War I!) starring W.C. Fields, Chester Conklin, Louise Fazenda (in the title role as Tillie), Mack Swain, Doris Hill, and Babe London (a large heavyset woman who was very typecast in comedy roles involving large women). Note that this movie bears no relation to the 1914 Charlie Chaplin movie of the same name, but because this movie is a "lost movie" (no known examples of it exist), it is often mistakenly described as a remake, when all the two movies have in common is the same name.

Important Added Info: Note that this set of stills (and 77 others we are auctioning in separate auctions) has a great provenance! Johnny Crawford, who first came to fame as the son in the TV series "The Rifleman" and later became a band leader loved movies, and early on he collected many movie stills and more. This set of 8x10 stills was consigned to us from his collection! Note very importantly that this is a really remarkable find! It is 100 stills from this 1928 movie, almost surely either intended for a "key book", or simply kept as reference by someone connected to the movie. In all of our years of auctioning we have only auctioned a total of five stills from this movie, and in the next decades we might not even auction that many, so this gives you a sense of just how rare these are. Included in the stills are lots that feature W.C. Fields, and there are also candids, portraits of the other stats and much more (see our many images). Also note that each still has an ink pad stamp on back that reads "Tillie's Punctured Romance, A Christie Feature Production, A Paramount Picture". Note finally that we have 13 images of the stills in this set, but due to a space limitation, only TEN of the 13 images are displayed above. However, there is a "supersize" link to the right of those images that lets you see the other 3.

Condition: very good. Some of the stills have changed to a sepia color (a few of them have discolored unevenly, but not many) and just a few have some border wear, but otherwise they are generally in really nice condition, in about as good condition as one could hope!
