Crosse & Blackwell is a food production company which has been in existence since 1706. Originally trading under the Jackson brand and then West and Wyatt, the company was purchased in 1830 by Edmund Crosse and Thomas Blackwell. Today the company is divided between J.M Smucker Company in North America and Princes Foods in Europe. This poster features art of a woman holding a can of Crosse & Blackwell tomato sauce by Bernard Villemot. If anyone knows more about this poster, please e-mail us and we will post it here.

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster was never folded. It had two small tears in the upper left border and a few creases scattered in the image. The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above. The poster was mounted onto a linen backing, and the top and bottom edges of the linen were folded back over and attached, so that a rod could be inserted through the excess in each area, and the poster could be displayed without being framed.
