An Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Insert Movie Poster (measures 14" x 36" [36 x 91 cm]) (Learn More)

The Wet Parade, the 1932 Victor Fleming New York City alcoholism Prohibition family relationship historical melodrama ("Jimmy 'Schnozzle' Durante SLAYS YOU! In The Wet Parade"; based on the novel "By Upton Sinclair"; about two families that are severely hurt by the effects of Prohibition, which resulted in more alcohol consumption than ever; interestingly, the movie separately follows the two families, and then brings them together by having the children of the families unite romantically) starring Dorothy Jordan, Walter Huston, Lewis Stone, Robert Young (in his fourth credited movie role!), Neil Hamilton, Jimmy Durante (in a bizarre cameo as a bearded federal agent!), and Myrna Loy. Note that there is an oddity to the billing of this movie. The first release insert shows the stars in the above order (but Myrna Loy is not billed at all) and the herald has the stars in a slightly diff order, but Myrna Loy is still not billed. We don't know why the billing would be different between the insert and the herald. We also don't know why Myrna Loy was not billed at all, and we suspect it was because she was not yet established as a "MGM actress". She had been making movies for a number of different studios the past few years, and perhaps MGM was reluctant to promote her.

If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that, as noted above, Myrna Loy was not billed on this insert (and we suspect not on any of the other first release advertising). However, whoever designed this insert chose a great image Myrna Loy and fifth billed Neil Hamilton to put at the top of the insert, which is certainly great for Myrna Loy fans! Also note that there is artwork on the left and right of this poster. It is not signed, and we don't know who drew it. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Finally note that this is an extremely rare poster. We have never auctioned one in all our years of auctioning! Not only that we have only auctioned some window, lobby and trolley cards and a few other small items for this movie, but no other posters for it!

Condition: good. The poster was never folded. It has some creases scattered in the top 5" of the poster, including in Loy's hair and upper chest, but not in her face. It has some pairs of staple holes around the edges and near the center of the poster. It has tack holes in the corners with some small paper loss in the upper left blank corner. There are some faint stains in Young and Jordan's face at the bottom of the poster. There was a 1" tear and creases in the upper right blank border and someone put a piece of tape on back of that area. This is the kind of poster that responds really well to restoration. It is likely that most of the stains described above can be removed chemically, and after proper restoration the poster will look fantastic, or the poster could be displayed as it is.
