An Original Vintage Theatrical 8" x 10" [20 x 25 cm] Movie Still (Learn More)

The Day of Faith, the 1923 Tod Browning silent rich man/poor girl romantic melodrama ("Adapted for the screen by June Mathis & Katherine Kavanaugh"; based on the novel by Arthur Somers; a really wild story about a very rich man who is tarred and feathered by an angry mob, who resents his wealth, and he dies and leaves his fortune to a woman to open a mission to help poor people!; later, a millionaire's son falls in love with the mission woman, and the father tries to discredit the mission to break them up, but his actions result in an angry mob that beats his son to death, and he realizes how wrong he was) starring Eleanor Boardman, Ford Sterling, Ray Griffith, Tyrone Power Sr., Heinie Conklin (billed as "Charles Conklin"), Wallace MacDonald, Winter Hall (the millionaire), and John Curry (a black African American actor who plays the millionaire's servant). Note that this was adapted from a book by two writers, including June Mathis, a legendary screenwriter. We don't know how much of this wild plot was in the book and how much was added, and of course, director Tod Browning was known for really strange movies, including "Dracula" and "Freaks", so he might well have contributed to the plot as well. Note that this is a "lost" film, which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist.

Important Added Info: Note that we previously auctioned a different still from this movie that showed the millionaire dead after being tarred and feathered. This is the only other scene we have left from this movie, and it shows the millionaire's black servant leading him home after he has been tarred and feathered, and it is certainly a very striking image!

Condition: very good to fine. The still is in very nice condition!
