Date Sold 10/13/2020Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage English Movie Trade Ad (measures 11" x 17" [28 x 43 cm]; 2 pages) (Learn More) The Sullivans, the 1944 Lloyd Bacon World War II (WWII) Naval romantic melodrama ("Make room in your heart for all of them"; "The Sullivans are moving in!"; "Story by Edward Doherty and Jules Schermer"; based on the true story about five brothers who were all killed on a single ship; the movie was originally made to boost morale but audiences were so upset by it that it was pulled in the U.S. out of fear that it would cause military enlistment to drop!) starring Anne Baxter, Thomas Mitchell, Selena Royle, Edward Ryan, Trudy Marshall, John Campbell, James Cardwell, John Alvin, George Offerman Jr., Ward Bond, and Bobby Driscoll. Note that after this tragic incident, the U.S. Armed Forces changed their rules so that brothers could not serve together at a single location, to make it incredibly unlikely that something like this could happen again. The movie was pulled from theaters quickly after it was made. 20th Century-Fox, which had produced the movie, tried to recoup some of the expenses by selling the rights to it after World War II ended, and it was re-released by Realart during the Korean War (with a new title, "The Fighting Sullivans"), but it did not do well. It is periodically shown on television, and it is REALLY hard to watch, especially if you know what happened before you watch it. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this is a great trade ad taken out of an issue of Kinematograph English trade magazine. Studios would run these elaborate ads in issues of this magazine, and they often had images not found on any of the regular movie posters (either English or U.S.). This trade ad was removed from a 1944 issue of this magazine, and it will look incredible displayed on the new owner's wall. The back of this trade ad has text or ads for other movies from that time, and we have not pictured the back because the primary interest to bidders is the great ad we have pictured. Note also that this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube. Condition: good to very good. The ad has separated along a few areas of the spine and the spine is taped from the back. Learn More about condition grades
