An Original Vintage Theatrical 8" x 10 1/4" [20 x 26 cm] Movie Still (Learn More) Gold Dust Gertie, the 1931 Lloyd Bacon romantic screwball comedy (about a gold digger who has had many husbands, including two men who now work together in a bathing suit company, and they are engaged to marry twin sisters, but their ex-wife shows up to cause trouble, and she gets romantically involved with the owner of the bathing suit company, who is against divorce, and also against revealing bathing suits, but she is able to change his mind about both matters, once she models a revealing suit for him that she designed herself, and everything works out in the end) starring Winnie Lightner (in the title role as Gertrude 'Gertie' Dale), Ole Olsen, Chic Johnson (billed collectively as "Olsen & Johnson"), Dorothy Christy, and Claude Gillingwater. Note that Olsen and Johnson were a well known vaudeville comedy team, who made several movies in the 1930s and 1940s. We imagine that the nickname "Gold Dust Gertie" is a variation on the term "gold digger", but we can't say for sure. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography.
