An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Insert Movie Poster (measures 14" x 36" [36 x 91 cm]) (Learn More)

A House Divided (also released as "The Woman Breaker"), the 1931 William Wyler family relationship father/son romantic love triangle melodrama ("From the story by Olive Edens"; a wild story of an old widower with a grown son who sends for a mail order bride, and gets one the age of his son, and that causes tension, and the father and son fight, and the father can't walk again, and the wife stays to take care of the father, even though she loves the son, and at the film's climax, she runs away with the son, and the crippled father chases them in a boat and is drowned) starring Walter Huston, Douglass Montgomery (billed as "Kent Douglass"), Helen Chandler, Walter Brennan, Vivien Oakland, and Frank Hagney. Note that the title of this movie, of course, comes from Abraham Lincoln's Gettysburg Address, where he said "A house divided against itself will not stand"!

Important Added Info: Note that ANY movie paper from this movie is incredibly rare. We have only previously auctioned a glass slide and three stills (and NO other movie paper of any kind) from this movie until we received this poster!

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster was never folded and it had a 5" tear near the middle of the right border, and a 2" tear in the left border, in the background above the man's head. It also had some partial horizontal creases scattered throughout. It had tears scattered in the right blank border, with some faint staining and creases scattered in the lower half of the right border. It had some faint staining and two tears in the right of the bottom border and a few small tears and creases in the rest of the blank borders. There was faint scuffing in part of the bottom area that says "A Universal Picture". Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was backed on linen with no restoration and no excess. Because most of the defects are in the blank borders, and because the creases within the image are not very noticeable, the poster can certainly be displayed exactly as it is, or one might choose to have additional restoration performed. Either way, the new owner will have an incredibly rare poster to display on their wall!
