Original Vintage Linenbacked War Poster (measures 19 3/4" x 30 1/4") (Learn More) Blot it Out, the 1917 U.S. World War I (WWI) War Bond poster ("The Hun - his Mark"; "Blot it Out with Liberty Bonds") encouraging citizens to purchase bonds, and featuring J. Allen St. John art of a bloody hand print. Note that J. Allen St. John is the famous pulp magazine illustrator who drew the dust jackets for all of the early Edgar Rice Burroughs "Tarzan" novels, including "Tarzan of the Apes" in 1914! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: This poster has been professionally linenbacked. It now looks great, and most dealers would describe it as "fine (or mint) on linen". We have noted the defects that were restored below (and feel everyone should always do this!). Many collectors would not be aware of the restoration this poster has had unless it was specifically shown to them! Condition: very good to fine. This poster was in very good to fine condition prior to linenbacking. It appears to have had the following defects: there was a 3" tear near the top of the left of the poster. There were some tiny areas of paper loss in the blank borders. There are faint water stains in the bottom of the image area going through the word "BONDS". The defects were well corrected during the linenbacking process (but the restorer left alone the very faint stains at bottom) and the poster now looks great! Learn More about condition grades
