9 Original Vintage Theatrical Deluxe French Movie Lobby Cards (each measures 9" x 11 3/4" [23 x 30 cm]) (Learn More)

L'enigmatique Monsieur Parkes (literally translates to "Mysterious Mr. Parkes"), the 1930 Louis J. Gasnier French romantic comedy melodrama starring Adolphe Menjou (in the title role as Courtenay Parkes), Claudette Colbert (in her second year of movies!), Emile Chautard, Adrienne D'Ambricourt, and Sandra Ravel. This was a French version of "Slightly Scarlet", made by Paramount in 1930 (Universal would do the same thing with "Dracula" in 1931). For this movie, they filmed it three times, once in English, once in Spanish, and once in French, with three entirely different casts. But normally in these kinds of cases, they would use U.S. actors for the English version and mostly actors from the other country (France, Spain, etc) for the other version, but in the case of this movie, the French version starred two different American actors, Adolphe Menjou and Claudette Colbert! The reason for this was that Colbert was French born and spoke fluent French, and Menjou was American born, but had a French father and also spoke fluent French, while Evelyn Brent and Clive Brook (the stars of the English version) did not. Movie paper of ANY kind from this French version is beyond scarce (we have never seen anything from this release until we were consigned a set of nine French lobby cards from this version in 2014). It appears this movie was never released in the U.S. If anyone knows more about this movie, please e-mail us and we will post it here.

Important Added Info: Note that there are a few titles where absolutely nothing has ever turned up (not a still, or anything!), and this is one of those titles! That is why we are so happy to be able to offer this set of "country of origin" lobby cards for this French movie (which measure 9" x 11 3/4" [23 x 30 cm]). The person who purchases this set will have EVERYTHING that we have ever seen from this movie!

Condition: very good to fine. Some of the cards have some slight paper residue in the bottom left corner or slight darkening in that area. A few of them have darkening in the right blank border. Otherwise, the cards are in really nice condition!
