A 1928 Re-Release Vintage Theatrical Chapter #1 (The Return of Tarzan) Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More)

Adventures of Tarzan, the 1921 Robert F. Hill & Scott Sidney silent jungle adventure serial ("The mightiest of chapter plays..."; "Distributed by Adventures of Tarzan Serial Sales Corporation"; "The Wild Animal Serial Supreme"; "15 Electrifying Episodes"; "Picturized from the concluding chapters of 'The Return of Tarzan' by Edgar Rice Burroughs"; "Watch for it!"; "'The Tarzan of Tarzans'"; "Lions, elephants, crocodiles, leopards, apes, monkeys and a host of other jungle denizens. Scene after scene of thrill and excitement in each episode of 'Adventures of Tarzan.' The heroic Lincoln as Tarzan the Ape-Man is the central figure in a series of hair-breadth escapes and wonderful stunts which will keep you on the edge of your chair throughout the entire serial.") starring Elmo Lincoln (best remembered for being the very first actor to portray Tarzan in the movies in 1918), Louise Lorraine, Lillian Worth, and Frank Whitson. Note that this movie was a sequel to the very first Tarzan movie made in 1918, "Tarzan of the Apes", with Elmo Lincoln in the title role. This movie also starred Elmo Lincoln as Tarzan, and they are the only two Tarzan movies starring Lincoln. Original movie paper from either of these movies is EXTREMELY scarce!

Important Added Info: Note that lobby cards from this early Tarzan serial are unbelievably rare! We have previously auctioned two title cards, but we were told by lobby card and Tarzan experts that those title cards were both from the 1928 re-release of this movie, because the first release advertising said "Weiss Brothers' Numa Pictures", and the re-release title card says solely "Weiss Brothers". But this wonderful lobby card does not say either, so we can't say for certain if it is from 1921 or 1928. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Please do not bid on this card unless you can accept the uncertainty as to whether it is from 1921 or 1928 (and of course, it is the only scene lobby card we have ever auctioned, original or re-release!). Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has.

UPDATED 05/02/2019: Note that an extreme Tarzan expert was able to determine for certain that this is from the 1928 re-release because it was 15 chapters in 1921 but condensed to 10 chapters in 1928 and the chapter 1 title changed. Since this card has the 1928 chapter 1 title, we know for certain it is from the 1928 re-release.

Condition: good to very good. There is small paper loss in the bottom right blank corner, a stain in the top left blank corner, and a few pinholes and faint smudges around the edges. Otherwise, the card is in nice condition, and will display great on the new owner's wall since its defects are primarily in the blank borders (although, of course, restoration could be performed). Note that this lobby card is completely unrestored and there is not a single piece of tape on either the front or back!
