An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More)

Undine, the 1916 Henry Otto silent swimming diving water nymph fantasy melodrama (based on the fairy tale by Friedrich de La Motte) starring Ida Schnall (in the title role as Undine), Douglas Gerrard, Edna Maison, Carol Stellson, Caroline Fowler, Orin Jackson, and Josephine Rice. Note that Ida Schnall is one of the most important early female athletes, but sadly, she is almost completely forgotten today. In 1912, the Olympic games (held in Sweden that summer) allowed women to compete in swimming and diving, and Schnall was a champion at both, but the captain of the U.S. Olympic team did not want women competitors traveling with the men, so he banned the women from competing, which almost surely robbed Schnall of multiple medals. The following year, she helped found the New York Female Giants baseball team, and she was the manager and a star player! In 1915, she appeared in a movie, "Runaway June", and the next year she starred in this movie. We don't know what happened to her after that, but she lived all the way until 1973, when she passed away at the age of 85. Much research needs to be done about her life, and surely she deserves a film biography!
Important Added Info: Note that first release 1916 movie paper from this movie is incredibly rare. We have only auctioned one other vertical lobby card from this movie (and no posters) until we received this second vertical lobby card (and the first one sold for $332)! Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Note that in the middle 1910s, when lobby cards first started, sometimes the cards would have vertical images. But they quickly became a standard horizontal image. There ARE a very few exceptions to this, including this cool lobby card from this 1916 movie.

Condition: good. The card has pinholes in the corners that are enlarged. It has a V-shaped tear and creases near the middle of the background area. It has some faint scuff marks scattered throughout, including ones that affect the figures, and there are also a few faint stains in the background areas. In spite of these defects, this over a century year old card can be displayed and enjoyed as it is, or certainly, restoration could be performed.
