An Original Vintage INCOMPLETE Three-Sheet Movie Poster (3sh; measures 27" x 29 3/4" [69 x 76 cm]) (Learn More)

George Washington was an American soldier and statesman who served as the first President of the United States from 1789 to 1797. During the American Revolutionary War, Washington served as Commander-in-Chief of the Continental Army; as one of the Founding Fathers of the United States, he presided over the convention that drafted the United States Constitution and came to be known as the "father of his country" during his lifetime and to this day. AND Betsy Ross is widely credited with making the first American flag. According to family tradition, upon a visit from General George Washington in 1776, Ross convinced him to change the shape of the stars he had sketched for the flag from six-pointed to five-pointed by demonstrating that it was easier and speedier to cut the latter. However, there is no archival evidence or other recorded verbal tradition to substantiate this story of the first American flag, and it appears that the story first surfaced in the writings of her grandson in the 1870s
If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that this is a VERY frustrating poster! That is because it appears to be the center section of a 3-sheet, and it only has the image, so we have no idea what it is from. It would seem to likely date from around 1900, and it was surely about Betsy Ross making the first flag for George Washington, because that is what is pictured, but beyond that, we have no idea. It could be from a stage play, or a very early movie, or simply a reproduction of a painting, or anything else. If anyone knows more about this poster, please e-mail us and we will post it here. PLEASE DO NOT BID ON THIS POSTER UNLESS YOU CAN ACCEPT BOTH THAT IT IS INCOMPLETE AND THAT WE HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IT IS FROM! Note that this poster has been trimmed and it now measures 27" x 29 3/4" [69 x 76 cm]. Also note that this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube.

Condition: poor. The poster is likely trimmed from a three-sheet size poster, but that is purely a guess. There is much tape on the back of the poster, both on the borders and on the back of many tears around the edges and in the center, where there was also some small paper loss. Please look at our super-sized image to get a good sense of the exact condition of this item. Certainly, everything is missing except a major part of the image. PLEASE DO NOT BID ON THIS POSTER UNLESS YOU CAN ACCEPT BOTH THAT IT IS INCOMPLETE AND THAT WE HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IT IS FROM!
