An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Jumbo Lobby Card (LC; measures 14" x 17" [36 x 43 cm]) (Learn More) Casey at the Bat, the 1927 Monte Brice silent New York Major League Baseball sports comedy ("Story by Hector Turnbull"; very loosely based on the classic poem by Ernest Lawrence Thayer) starring Wallace Beery (in the title role as 'Home Run' Casey), Ford Sterling, Zasu Pitts, Sterling Holloway, and Spec O'Donnell. Note that this movie owes as much to the larger-than-life Babe Ruth as it does to the classic poem! In it, Casey is a mighty home run hitter, who is signed by the New York Giants, and he starts to live the high life, buying drinks for everyone and romancing showgirls. At the climax of the movie, he comes to bat, and just like the Casey of the poem, he strikes out, but it turns out that the ball was doctored, and the result of the game is overturned! Important Added Info: Note that this is one of a large collection of jumbo lobby cards we were consigned (it includes some "vertical" star portraits as well). In addition to including many extremely rare titles, many of the jumbo lobby cards are in nice condition (some have staining or paper loss, which is clearly marked when it is present, but almost all the cards are not at all fragile, which is a big plus with this size of movie paper).
