An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41") (Learn More) The Speed Champion, the 1925 Albert S. Rogell silent boxing sports movie-making action thriller (a clever story of a boxer who lost a title match, and the winner got a Hollywood contract playing a boxer in a movie, so the losing boxer gets a job playing his opponent in the movie, but when they start filming, the staged match for the movie, he turns it into a real fight) starring Billy Sullivan, Kathleen Myers, Johnny Sinclair, Virginia Vance, Eddie Diggins, and Joe Moore. Note that this is a "lost" film which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist. Also, note that the IMDb says that this movie was called "The Goat Getter", and that "The Speed Champion" is a re-release title. But we strongly suspect that they are wrong and that the title of the movie when it was released was "The Speed Champion", because this poster matches up in every way, and has no indicating of being a re-release. Perhaps "The Goat Getter" was an alternate title or a working title. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we can't be 100% certain this is a poster from "The Goat Getter", because it has an alternate title, but the director and the three stars listed on this poster appear to have never made another together other than "The Goat Getter", and it has the correct distributor. If anyone knows more about this movie, please e-mail us and we will post it here. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. This poster has been linenbacked, but it was not very well done, either because the restorer did not do a very good job, or because the years since it has been linenbacked have not been kind to the poster. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. Generally, it had a fairly large oval area of paper loss at the top and bottom crossfolds, much smaller paper loss at the middle crossfold, and tears and tiny areas of paper loss on the other foldlines. There were pinholes, tears, and areas of paper loss in the borders. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can see signs of the above general defects and the restoration of the defects (in some cases, as should be immediately evident in our image, the linenbacker did no restoration to some of the defects). I can imagine some collectors displaying this poster just as it is, and accepting the defects and signs of restoration, although other collectors would only display it if it had additional restoration.
