An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Minstrel Show Poster (measures 20 1/2" x 28") (Learn More) Neil O'Brien Great American Super-Minstrels (also known as "Neil O'Brien Super-Minstrels with Bert Swor"), the 1910s traveling blackface minstrel musical stage production ("Oscar F. Hodge presents"; "Neil O'Brien & Bert Swor - equal owners and co-stars"; "America's Best Known Band and Symphony Orchestra"; "Neil O'Brien creator of Progressive Minstrelsy"; "Peerless Dancing Stars of Vim and Versatility"; "Frank [Cracker] Quinn comedian"). Neil O'Brien was born as Cornelius J. O'Brien in 1869 in Port Dickinson, New York. In the 1890s he joined a minstrel show and later appeared with Lew Dockstader for a few years. He next performed in vaudeville then started the Neil O'Brien Minstrel Company in the 1910s and toured to 1925. He next teamed up with famous boxer James J. Corbett to tour as a vaudeville comedy act before retiring in 1929. He passed away in 1954 at age 85. Bert Swor was a minstrel show performer from the 1890s to the 1930s. He performed with Neil O'Brien in the early 1910s and then he worked with the minstrel show of Al G. Fields. He passed away in 1943 at the age of 72. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this poster was folded across the middle at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube. Condition: very good. The poster was folded across the center, and was also folded across the center slightly diagonally below the first foldline. At one time, there was a paper snipe attached to the back of the bottom center of the poster, and some paper remnants of the snipe are still on the back of the poster. The glue from the back of the snipe caused the poster to ripple in the left and right of the bottom of the poster. The poster had darkened slightly around the edges and there are creases and some tiny tears in the borders (and someone repaired the tiny tears with clear tape from the reverse).
