An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Jumbo Lobby Card (LC; measures 14" x 17" [36 x 43 cm]) (Learn More) Claudette Colbert was a top Hollywood actress from the 1920s to the 1960s. She was born in Paris, but came to New York City as a preteen, and went to public schools. After graduating, she appeared in more than a dozen Broadway plays, and made her first films for Paramount Pictures in their Astoria, Queens studio. She quickly became a star and was soon a major star. Some of her movies include: It Happened One Night (winner of the Best Actress Academy Award for this film), Midnight, The Palm Beach Story, Bluebeard's Eighth Wife, Cleopatra (the 1934 version, in the title role), Since You Went Away (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film), Private Worlds (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film), and scores of others! She passed away in 1996 at the age of 92. Important Added Info: Note that all of the studios made "vertical" half-sheet posters (28" x 22") that each had an image of their top stars, sometimes with no borders, and sometimes with borders. These started in the very early 1910s, and continued into the middle 1940s! Sometimes they would be distributed with specific movies from those stars, and sometimes they would be sold as sets. They are all at least somewhat rare, and some are impossible to find. In addition, studios made similar "jumbo lobby card portraits" (17" x 14"), also with a vertical orientation, and also with a head shot of a leading star. These are even more rare than the half-sheet portraits, and a very few of them are known to exist. We have been consigned an amazing large collection of jumbo lobby cards, which includes a number of these portraits, and all of them are being auctioned, each in its own auction. This is a rare opportunity to purchase these super rarities! Condition: fair to good. There are two tiny areas of paper loss in the borders. There are many stains scattered throughout, including in Colbert's face. There is a 4" tear near the center of the bottom border, repaired with tape from the back. Learn More about condition grades
