A Vintage Hardcover Book (measures 5 1/4" x 7 3/4" [13 x 20 cm]; 329 pages) (Learn More) My Best Girl, the 1927 Sam Taylor silent family relationship romantic comedy (from the story "by Kathleen Norris"; Pickford works at a dime store, and meets handsome Buddy Rogers, and she doesn't know he is the son of the owner of the store; based on the story by Kathleen Norris) starring Mary Pickford, (in her last silent movie!) Charles 'Buddy' Rogers, Sunshine Hart, Lucien Littlefield and Carmelita Geraghty. Note that Mary Pickford had specialized in playing much younger than she actually was for many years, and in this movie, she not only was twelve years older than boyfriend Rogers, but she was also three years older than the man who played her father! It is also interesting to note that ten years after the making of this movie, following Pickford's divorce from Douglas Fairbanks Sr., she married Rogers, and they remained married until her death in 1979. Burt photoplay edition from 1927 (one of a collection of such books we are auctioning in this set of auctions). Here are some more details about these books: A.L. Burt (like Grosset & Dunlap) was a publisher that made a deal with all the studios in the 1910s to publish "movie edition" hardcovers of novels that were currently adapted into movies. They would re-publish the original novel as the movie came out (or soon after), and they would put a dust jacket on the book that showed the stars of the movie, and they would include several pages of images from the movie scattered in the book. These books were incredibly popular in the 1920s and 1930s. The example of this book offered here does not have its dust jacket. Note that we have pictured the front cover, the title page, and the interior page that shows the publishing information, and one or more interior 2-page spreads. Condition: good to very good.
