An Original Vintage Theatrical Uruguayan Movie Herald (measures 6 1/2" x 8 1/4" [17 x 21 cm]; 4 pages) (Learn More) Break of Hearts, the 1935 Philip Moeller romantic melodrama ("A new Hepburn to marvel at..."; "Electric Hepburn... ablaze in gorgeous gowns... together with the screen's new romantic idol"; based on the story by Lester Cohen; about a famous orchestra conductor who has many girlfriends, but then he meets a beautiful young female composer, and he falls in love and marries her, but then she catches him with another woman and leaves him) starring Katharine Hepburn, Charles Boyer, John Beal, Jean Hersholt, and Sam Hardy. Note that Francis Lederer was originally the male lead in this movie, but during the filming of the first romantic scene, he complained that the director wanted to show his "bad side", and he was immediately fired and replaced by Boyer, a young French actor (and this was a big break for Boyer, in one of his first major roles, and he was billed as "the screen's new romantic idol")! Also note that the orchestra conductor was based on two real-life conductors of the period: Leopold Stokowski, who was well known for his rearrangements of music by Bach, Wagner and other composers; and Arturo Toscanini, who was notorious for insulting his musicians during rehearsals the way the orchestra conductor does in the film. Important Added Info: Please note that Uruguayan heralds, like Spanish heralds, were printed in large quantities, and then sent to individual theaters in Uruguay, and they would have the backs of them overprinted or stamped with their theater name and specific play dates. But because a movie might play in Uruguay for a period of a year or two (traveling from theater to theater), there is no guarantee that the date overprinted on the back of the herald is the same as the date that the herald was first printed (and the date that the movie first played in Uruguay). We strongly suspect that most movies did not reach Uruguay until a year or two after their first release in other countries, but we can't say for certain. Therefore, we don't list the date overprinted on the back of a herald as the date of the herald (or the date of the movie's first release in Uruguay) unless we know from some other source that the later year was when the movie first played in Uruguay. If it is important to you that the date on the herald is the same date as when the movie first played in its country of origin, then please look at our image of the back of this herald to see if there is a different date printed on it.
