An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 28" x 43 3/4" [71 x 111 cm]) (Learn More) Test Tube Babies, the 1948 W. Merle Connell artificial insemination sexploitation movie ("Bold! Daring! True!"; "Exciting! Revealing!"; "Frank!") starring Dorothy Duke, William Thomason, Timothy Farrell, Peggy Roach, and John Michael. Note that this seemed like a far fetched fantasy in 1948 when this movie was made (and in fact, it had been described in science fiction stories for years before this). But exactly 30 years later, this fantasy became a reality when Louise Brown was conceived in this exact way in an English hospital (and the doctors who performed the procedure won the Nobel Prize decades later, in 2010). Also note that Timothy Farrell is completely forgotten today, but he had a fascinating life. He worked for 26 years for the Los Angeles County Marshal's Office, and was a movie actor at the same time! He mostly worked on low budget movies, including several for Ed Wood, although he did play a bailiff in the 1954 "A Star is Born", which was the ultimate typecasting, because he himself had been a bailiff, but he eventually rose to be the County Marshal. But in 1975, he was convicted of a felony (using deputies for political activities), and he was fired. He lived for another 14 years before dying of a heart attack. His life should be made into a movie, no doubt with Johnny Depp in the starring role! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have previously auctioned a one-sheet from this movie that was very similar to this poster, but with a few clear differences. That poster had a headshot image of a woman above the word "BABIES" that this poster does not have and it covered the word "FRANK!". That poster was one color, and this poster is two-color. That poster had no printer information, and this one has the name "Eloquent Press Corp." with a New York address printed in the lower left, and "COUNTRY OF ORIGIN U.S.A." in the lower right, and the other poster lacked both of those. Based on this, it would seem that this poster might predate the other, but we can't say for certain, so we are leaving both posters as first release. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Also note that this one-sheet measures 28" x 43 3/4" [71 x 111 cm]. Note that this poster is one of a remarkable collection of 24 sexploitation one-sheets (and one two-sheet from one of the 24 titles) which are mostly from the 1940s, and most of them are ones we have never auctioned before. These are among the most desirable sexploitation posters ever, because they are far more rare than those from later years! Condition: very good. The poster has 1 1/2" of separation at the bottom crossfold, with very tiny paper loss. It has pinholes in the corners and tiny tears and a few tiny bits of paper loss in the borders.
