An Original Vintage Linenbacked World War II Poster (measures 25 1/4" x 38" [64 x 97 cm]) (Learn More)

U.S. Army: Guardian of the Colors, the 1940 U.S. World War II (WWII) Home Front poster encouraging citizens to support the Army. Note that this poster features Tom Woodburn artwork of U.S. soldiers holding the American flag! Also, note that we know of two versions of this poster, one from 1936 and one from 1940! They are very similar to each other, although the words "U.S. Army" are in a different font on each of the two posters.
Artist: Tom Woodburn
Important Added Info: Note that the poster here is the 1936 version of this poster (see above), which we have only auctioned once before, and the buyer of that poster had it restored and has reconsigned it to us.

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had a tear in the bottom center of the poster, extending into the bottom of the image, and someone had put tape on the back of that tear that bled through to the front. There was water staining in the lower right blank border. It had some creases and tears around the edges. Overall, the poster was in fair to good condition prior to linenbacking. Given the poster's defects described above, the restorer did a pretty nice job on the poster, and it can be displayed and enjoyed, but you can see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects, but most of the noticeable defects are in the borders.
