An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (Spanish/US 1sh; printed in the U.S. for use with Spanish speaking audiences; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) The Monster and the Ape, the 1945 Howard Bretherton science fiction (sci-fi) horror serial ("Amazing! Fantastic! Weird! Thrilling!"; "A Columbia Chapter Play") starring Robert Lowery, George Macready, Ralph Morgan, Carole Mathews, Willie Best, and Ray Corrigan (uncredited as "Thor" the ape!). Note that Crash Corrigan made a REALLY wise investment in the 1930s, when he bought a "gorilla suit". In many of the movies in the 1940s where there is a fake gorilla, it is played by Crash Corrigan, no doubt because he could supply the suit! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Glenn Cravath Important Added Info: Note that this is a "stock" poster created by Columbia for use for all chapters of their "The Monster and the Ape" serial. Theaters would order this poster, which had a large blank rectangle in the bottom left. They would be sent a series of large paper snipes with the titles of specific chapters of the serial, and they could paste in each snipe as needed, thus getting many posters for the price of one. There were also stock posters from this serial that were overprinted with the names of the specific chapters, for theaters willing to purchase an entire set of them. This particular stock poster has a blank white area, indicating it likely was never used. Also note that this poster was printed in the United States for use at theaters with Spanish speaking audiences (this was done most by MGM, starting in the 1930s, but it was done by the other major studios as well, and often the posters would have the exact same image as the English language poster, except the writing would be in Spanish, and often there would be an added "Toda en Espanol!", meaning "Entirely in Spanish!", printed within the image). What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had an extra horizontal fold 3" above the top and bottom regular folds, with tiny paper loss and some tiny tears on part of some folds. It had pinholes, tears, and paper loss around the edges and some pinholes scattered in the image. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects. Learn More about condition grades
