An Undated (probably 1920s) Re-Release Theatrical Movie Herald (measures 4 1/2" x 7" [11 x 18 cm] when folded; 4 pages) (Learn More) The Birth of a Race, the 1918 John W. Noble silent black African American biblical historical melodrama ("The greatest Biblical and historical photo play ever produced."; "From the dawn of creation to the present day."; "Featuring: Life of Moses - Life of Christ - Birth of America"; "Adam and Eve"; "Noah building the Ark"; "Infant Moses taken from the Nile River"; "Prince Moses"; "Moses at the Red Sea"; "Christ before Pilate"; "Crucifixion"; "Columbus at the court of Isabella"; "Midnight ride of Paul Revere"; "Signing of the Declaration of Independence"; "Lincoln's Proclamation"; "World War"; "2 years in the making"; "Employed 10,000 people"; "Cost a million dollars") starring Louis Dean, Harry Dumont, Carter B. Harkness, Doris Doscher, and Charles E. Graham. Note that this movie was originally intended to be a short answer film that could be appended to D.W. Griffith's The Birth of a Nation in 1915 but a combination of weak financial backing and growing ambitions delayed its completion for more than two years. When it was finally released in December of 1918, it was a two-hour feature length film, portraying the achievements of black people through history. Note that the movie continued to play in "roadshow" engagements throughout the 1920s (in 1923 it was re-edited and called "The Light of the World"). It apparently was "revised and elaborated" in 1928 and played for the next two years as well! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that ANY movie paper from this movie is incredibly rare. We have never auctioned any movie paper item from this movie until we received this 1920s re-release herald (as noted above, it is probably from the late 1920s)! Condition: very good. The herald was tri-folded, but is otherwise in pretty nice condition (see our images). Learn More about condition grades
