An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 10 3/4" x 13 3/4" [27 x 35 cm]) (Learn More) Bulldog Drummond, the 1929 F. Richard Jones detective crime mystery thriller ("Ronald Colman thrills as a bold adventurer!"; based on the play by Herman C. McNeile) starring Ronald Colman (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film; in the title role as Bulldog Drummond), Claud Allister, Lawrence Grant, Joan Bennett, and Montagu Love. Note that "Bulldog Drummond" was a fictional English detective who was created in 1920 in a magazine story by H.C. McNeile, who wrote under the pen name of "Sapper" He appeared in ten novels, short stories, and even stage plays. When McNeile passed away in 1937, his friend, Gerard Fairlie, wrote more stories between 1938 and 1954, and after that, other authors created even more stories. Drummond was a World War I veteran who is bored and becomes an amateur detective, and he marries his first client, who becomes his assistant. The first movie based on this character was in 1923, with Carlyle Blackwell in the lead role. There was one more silent with Jack Buchanan in the lead, and then Ronald Colman starred in this first sound version in 1929. There were 13 movies in the 1930s, many with John Howard in the lead role. The character was revived in 1947, and 5 movies were made between 1947 and 1951, with Ron Randell, Tom Conway, and Walter Pidgeon playing the leads. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that first release 1929 movie paper from this movie is incredibly rare. We have never auctioned even a single movie poster or lobby card from this movie until we received this lobby card! Note that there is a stamp on the back that reads "FROM THE COLLECTION OF Michael R. Hawks", who most would consider the premier lobby card collector and expert in the world (and he is still an active collector, looking for the last few items he needs!). Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Finally, note that this lobby card has been trimmed and it now measures 10 3/4" x 13 3/4" [27 x 35 cm]. Condition: good to very good. Two of the borders were very slightly trimmed (only 1/4" was trimmed from each, and it is solely blank white paper). There are stains in the top blank border and a few faint stains in the rest of the borders. There is a piece of tape on the back of the bottom of the right border, where there was a tiny tear in the bottom right corner. I would think most collectors would be happy to display this wonderful card as it is, or certainly, restoration to the above defects could be performed, with or without backing the card.
