An Original Vintage Unfolded German "A0" Poster (33x47; measures 32 1/2" x 47 1/2" [83 x 121 cm]) (Learn More) Mummenschanz (literally translates to "Mummery"), the 1934 German poster promoting a masked theater troupe festival to take place at the Schwabinger Brewery in Munich, Germany from January 25th to the 30th. Note that this poster features art of a person in a costume by E. Tieck. In 1972, the "Mummenschanz Mask Theater" was founded in the U.S., Canada, and South America (they even appeared as special guest stars on "The Muppet Show"!), and there was a Mummenschanz show on Broadway that ran from 1977 to 1980. Tieck Important Added Info: Note that this poster is one of a remarkable collection of 46 pre-World War II German posters that we were consigned (and we are auctioning them in 46 separate auctions). They date from the 1880s to the late 1930s, but most are from the 1920s and 1930s. Posters from this time period are extremely scarce, due to the massive paper shortages in Germany during World War II. Many of these posters are for specific events that were held, and naturally, those posters would figure to be even more rare, since they could only have been used prior to the date of the event. This is a rare opportunity to purchase these extremely rare posters! Also note that this German A0 poster measures 32 1/2" x 47 1/2" [83 x 121 cm]. Condition: very good to fine. The poster was never folded. It had a few small tears in the borders that have tape on the back. Someone put some tape on the back of the entire right border where there had been a few small tears, and that tape has only slightly bled through to the front. Overall, it has likely survived in about as nice condition as one could hope, with a poster of this age and size! Learn More about condition grades
