An Original Vintage Folded Stage Play Poster (measures 21 1/4" x 31 1/4" [54 x 79 cm]) (Learn More)

Margaret Mather was a Canadian stage play actress from the 1880s to the 1890s. She was one of the foremost female Shakespearean actors of her time, with her most famous role being Juliet in "Romeo and Juliet", and she also played the lead in Joan of Arc, but that play was not very successful. She married the heir to the Pabst Brewing Company beer fortune, and she retired, but they divorced after she "threatened him with a whip", and she returned to the stage. She had an undisclosed chronic illness, and after a performance in 1898, she died that evening, and she was buried in her Juliet costume, at just 39 years of age.
If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that this poster is undated, but someone hand wrote "1890s" on the back. We think that was just a guess and that the poster is more likely from the 1880s. If it IS from the 1890s, then they used an old image of her to make her look younger! It has been trimmed and it now measures 21 1/4" x 31 1/4" [54 x 79 cm]. Also note that this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube.

Condition: good. The poster was slightly trimmed and it was folded once in each direction. There is paper tape on the back of all the borders and both folds. There was a snipe glued to the bottom, and it was removed, leaving paper remnants. Please look at our super-sized image to get a good sense of the exact condition of this item.
