An Original Vintage Theatrical Deluxe 7 3/4" x 9 3/4" [20 x 25 cm] Movie Still (Learn More) Born as Vernal Edna Andrews in Watseka, Illinois in 1893, Fern Andra was the daughter of William P. Andrews and Sarah Emily Evett, also known as Sadie. When William died in 1898, Sadie remarried Frank St. Clair, a vaudeville actor, circus performer and tight-rope walker. Fern was already appearing in public in a tightrope act by the age of four. She later trained in song and dance. As early as 1899, in New York, she made her first film, a version of Uncle Tom's Cabin. She was well known for her German silent films from 1913 through the 1920s. In 1922 Fern Andra survived an air crash where her companion Lothar von Richthofen was killed. She passed away in 1974 at the age of 80.
