An Autographed 4" x 6" [10 x 15 cm] Index Card (Learn More) James Edwards was a pioneering black African American actor from the 1950s to the 1960s. He was one of the first to completely break away from the Stepin Fetchit stereotyped roles, and play all positive black characters in mainstream Hollywood movies. Some of his movies include: The Set-Up, The Joe Louis Story, and The Manchurian Candidate. Sadly, Edwards passed away in 1970 at the age of 51 from a heart attack, so he never lived to see many of the great advancements made by and for black African Americans, advancements which he greatly helped pioneer. The index card could be matted with a vintage or repro still and framed together to make a cool display! Note that this is one of many items that was consigned to us by legendary Tarzan collector Phil Petras. Mr. Petras was one of the greatest Tarzan fans ever, and he became good friends with several of the actors who played Tarzan, and over many decades, starting in the 1970s, he would meet with actors and actresses who had appeared in Tarzan movies, sometimes on the sets of films, and sometimes at fan gatherings. Prior to his recent passing, he consigned most of his collection to us, and we are currently auctioning many of his autographed items, sometimes from actors who played Tarzan or Jane, and sometimes from actors who appeared in one or more Tarzan movies (but the items we are auctioning may or may not be from their Tarzan films). Mr. Petras naturally did not have "certificates of authenticity", but we feel certain that the autograph on this item, and every other item we are currently auctioning from his collection, is surely authentic! As is true of all the signed items we are currently auctioning, we give every buyer 30 days in which to review what they purchased and they can return any item as long as it is within 30 days of the end of the auction. On non-signed items, we give a "lifetime guarantee" on everything we auction, but on signed items, we give the above modified guarantee of 30 days after the auction closes. Condition: very good.
