An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked German Movie Poster (measures 36 3/4" x 54 1/2" [93 x 138 cm]) (Learn More) Unsuhnbar (literally translates to "Inexpiable"), the 1917 Georg Jacoby silent German World War I (WWI) family relationship munitions melodrama (about a man working in an ammunition factory who joins a strike, which as a direct consequence leads to his brothers death at the front. To make up for this, he joins the military, while his mother takes his place in the factory) starring Adele Sandrock, Johannes Muller, Toni Zimmerer, and Grete Diercks. Note that this film was created by BUFA (Bild Und Filmamt), a branch of the German military. It was a propaganda film aimed at domestic audiences, which showed how harmful to Germany it was to have low productivity on the battlefield, and was in response to the increasing number of demonstrations and strikes in Germany that followed a reduction in the bread rations in April of 1917. Also, note that this poster features a quote by Paul von Hindenburg (chief of the General Staff), and art by Hans Rudi Erdt, who was a most eminent German graphic designer, lithographer and commercial artist known for his contributions to German poster art between 1906 and 1918. Artist: Hans Rudi Erdt Important Added Info: Note that this is a "country of origin" poster for this German movie! Note that this poster has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the poster was backed onto a light paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (it means that the poster must be handled carefully, as the backing does not give it much added strength, but it is similar to having an unrestored poster, and yet it has been properly preserved). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards. What IS paperbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster was printed in two panels designed to overlap. It had darkened and had a few tiny stains and faint smudges scattered in the image. It had some very minor wear on the folds. Someone had it paperbacked with no excess and no restoration (it was surely done to conserve the poster and to join the two sections together). It was done well, and the poster will display wonderfully on the new owner's wall. Learn More about condition grades
