Did you know... that it is difficult to get quality insurance on collectibles?

Here is a question we were asked this week:

"Hey Bruce - I have been collecting movie memorabilia since high school (in the 70s) and my homeowner's insurance won't cover the collection. was wondering if you or Phil knew of any reputable firms that specialize in collector's insurance. Even if I only do part of my collection, it's better than nothing..."

     We replied:

"There is one place we know of that a lot of collectors use. They write large policies, and don't require much of anything as far as proof of you owning it or value of what you have. That is what scares me! They are happy to take your money, but when it comes time to pay a claim, they may either be super slow to pay, or demand all kinds of proof of ownership and value that may be very hard to produce.

So I ask this of everyone reading this:
What kind of insurance (if any) do you have on your collection, and how would you rate it, and would you recommend that company to others? Have you ever filed a claim, and if so, what was your experience and do have any other input you would like to share?

So we are asking club members this week to please send your comments, thoughts, and experiences with insuring your collection to us HERE. We will run the replies we receive in next week's club message (and also possibly future ones). This is a topic of great interest to a LOT of collectors, and we can hopefully get a good discussion going, but only if some of you take the time to help your fellow collectors by replying!
