Blame it on Covid? Maybe yes, maybe no. What is for certain is that currently shipping times are EXTREMELY erratic, with some packages taking weeks or months to arrive. I have run this business for 32 years (and been a major shipper of packages for 53 years!) and I can tell you for 100% certain that the Post Office (and the other shipping services) USED to actually try very hard to do a great job in getting packages where they were sent in a reasonable time frame.
But the last decade the speed of delivery has gotten worse and worse (even on packages with a GUARANTEED delivery time), and the past year, it has fallen off a cliff, with many, many packages taking weeks to arrive, and sometimes even months (six months is not all that uncommon anymore to non-U.S. locations).
Many packages
still do arrive in a reasonable time, and there is absolutely no rhyme or reason
as to why the ones that are delayed were delayed. Two things are really
maddening about this. One is that the tracking is often of NO help at all,
and sometimes it gives wildly inaccurate information. The other is that the
delivery companies (the Post Office worst of all) are often flat out lying in
lots of ways, with some offices giving conflicting information to what others
say.
Is this no way to run a business?
Absolutely. If the Post Office was "privatized" it would go bankrupt in a few
months. But there is nothing any of us can do about it.
The only REALLY "good" news out of this is that just about every single
package and tube we have sent HAS eventually shown up, either to the
recipient, or back to us (and in both cases, when there is a long delay, it is
with no explanation or a false one). So the odds ARE wonderful that when
we send any customer a package it will EVENTUALLY arrive, but in some
extreme cases it will take weeks or months within the U.S. and even longer to
the rest of the world.
Please note that
when YOU (the recipient) go to your Post Office they will often tell you
that WE (the sender) can immediately institute a "trace" on a missing
package, and this is not at all true (and just something they tell you to get
you to leave).
This is all very, very sad, and the trillion dollar question is, will things
EVER go "back to normal"? No one knows, but I certainly wish there were
ANYTHING we could do about this. I very much apologize to those of you who
have had shipping delays, and to those of you who were lied to by the Post
Office, even though this is in no way our fault.
AND REMEMBER THAT AS OF NOW, JUST ABOUT EVERYTHING IS STILL GETTING TO ITS
DESTINATION, SO LET'S BE THANKFUL FOR THAT!
