eMoviePoster.comDid You Know... that many poster images that you find on movie news websites and poster websites never actually made it to the printing stage?Return to Did You Know Archive Added: 03/28/2016 We have seen it over and over. Someone contacts us about a movie that is about to come out (or sometimes a movie that is five, ten or more years old) and they ask us if we can get them an example of a specific poster from that movie, and they provide the exact image. Often we reply to them that we have never seen it, and we ask them where they saw it, and almost always they send us a link to a movie news website or a poster website. We then almost always have to tell them that what they saw is "fan created" art, and that it does not exist as a poster (at least, not as one that was released by the studio). Why is this? The continual improvement of "Photoshop" type programs (and the lowering of their cost) has allowed just about anyone with any talent to become a "graphic artist"! Such people often mess around in their spare time, and digitally create the posters THEY wish had been made for current or recent movies. That in itself is kind of cool and fun, but often these images are not identified as fan creations, and if they are, that identification is often lost as those images are shared from site to site. And sometimes people will have full-size printouts of such posters made and they sell them as studio issue, and that definitely is NOT cool! The good news is that such fan created posters are almost always super easy to tell as not being studio issued, due to their lower printing quality. But the next time you see an image on the Internet of a really cool poster with a completely different design, remember that there is a good chance it is a fan creation!
