eMoviePoster.com Secure Packaging Guide
This page is intended to give a quick overall guide to better packaging of consignments. We are providing this because we've seen lots of posters that were poorly packed resulting in damage that could have been avoided had the consignor knew these tips.
- Overall Tips
- Write your name and address on the outside of the package.
- Include the filled out Consignor Reference Sheet inside all packages
- Cover-up or remove any old info and
stickers from reused shipping materials. This includes old addresses,
product labels on tubes, etc.
- For Packing Tubes
- Squarely stack all items together, then roll them up into a single roll. This makes processing of your consignments far faster. Try to avoid rolling each item around the previous item (which results in us having to "unroll" each item individually resulting in far more time to auction your consignments).
- Pack in tubes that are slightly longer than the width of the largest item (for instance, if you have a poster that is 27" wide, use a 28" to 30" tube), and fill the empty space with packing material so items does not shift from end to end inside tube. Packing peanuts or crumpled newspaper work great for this.
- It is also wise to wrap the roll of posters
in kraftpaper (or something similar) for added protection.
-
For Packing Boxes
- Use boxes that are not too much larger than the items to be shipped, unless extra padding is needed for valuable items. Too much empty space to be filled with loose packing material tends to cause damage in shipping. We've even seen boxes that were too large break open which can lead posters lost in the mail!
- Securely seal packages so that no flaps can possibly come open during shipping resulting in damage or loss of items.
- Notes for Materials for Better Packing
- Strapping and kraft or paper tape are better than any clear or brown 'standard shipping' tapes which tear very easily and do not protect the valuable contents of your package.
- An extra piece of cardboard placed below and above items in a box greatly helps protect them from the rigors of shipping facilities.
- Tubes with 5/32 inch (.150 inch) thick wall or larger greatly reduces crushing during shipping. A good rule of thumb is, if it compresses easily when squeezed with bare hands, then it is not good for shipping vintage posters.
