A Linenbacked Special Poster (measures 20" x 28" [51 x 71 cm]) (Learn More)

a circa 1896 promotional poster with the text "The Leader of Them All: Moving Pictures, Always Something New" and features a great artwork image of a female drum major waving a baton! Note that the poster is undated, and has no small writing at the bottom, but it has a maroon printer's logo in the blue background below the drum major's foot (it is difficult to read, but it is the logo for the printing company, which is "HENNEGAN & CO." and the words under it are "SHOW PRINT" and the words at the bottom of the logo are "CINCINNATI OH."). Hennegan & Co. printed most of the existing movie posters from the turn of the century, and this surely appears to be from that period, and possibly as early as 1896, when the first Edison posters appeared. If anyone knows exactly when this poster is from, please e-mail us and we will post it here.
If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster was folded once in each direction and there were creases, tears, and tiny paper loss on parts of both foldlines, and some tiny stains and small tears in parts of the borders. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well!
