An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Three-Sheet Movie Poster (measures 41" x 81") (Learn More)

Spooks, the 1917 silent black African American comedy 2-reel short starring the "Ebony Players", consisting of Sam Robinson, Samuel "Sambo" Jacks, Will Starks, Julia Mason, Bert Murphy, Evon Skekeeter, Mildred Price, Walter Brogsdale, Robert Duree, Frank Pollard, and George Lewis. I could not find any information whatsoever about the plot of the movie, but based on the images, it seems quite likely that the plot involved police breaking in on an illegal gambling parlor (where men were sitting around playing poking), and after the police break in, they seem to discover an escaped convict, and also a man who is wearing a sheet, and may be unconscious or dead! In the inset image, there is also a ghost-like figure (or a man with a sheet over him), but none of the men by that figure seem to pay him any attention. Perhaps this movie had a fantasy element to it, and it is unclear if the "spooks" of the title refers to actual or pretend ghosts within the movie. If anyone has ANY further information about this completely forgotten movie, please e-mail us and we will post it here.
If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that I have never seen or heard of a single poster or lobby card from this completely forgotten 1917 silent black African-American comedy 2-reeler! If anyone is aware of ANY other original movie paper, please e-mail me and I will post it here.

Condition: good. The poster had many creases, tears, and areas of paper loss throughout the entire poster. The poster required considerable restoration, but I felt it was not advisable to paint over any entire areas of the poster (with the exception of the solid yellow border, which has been completely repainted), because I thought it is far more important to preserve as much of the actual poster as possible, and what is wrong with seeing how aged the poster is, given that it is nearly 90 years old, and quite likely the only poster in existence from this movie! So you can see signs of the considerable restoration throughout the poster, but you can also clearly tell that the poster has not been heavily re-painted, and that the restoration, while extensive, is only in the damaged areas. Overall, the poster was in fair condition prior to linenbacking. It has now been repaired to a point to where I would think any collector of black African-American movie paper would be proud to display this poster on their wall!
