An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More)

Love My Dog, the 1927 Robert F. McGowan silent Our Gang family juvenile comedy short ("'Our Gang' Comedies"; "Hal Roach presents His Rascals in 'Love My Dog'") starring Joe Cobb, Jackie Condon, Allen 'Farina' Hoskins, Scooter Lowry, Jay R. Smit, and Clifton Young. Note that this is an extremely highly regarded Our Gang short, but it is shorter on comedy and longer on tragedy than most entries. All dogs must be vaccinated, or they will be "gassed" and killed, and the kids try to disguise their dogs in various ways, but the evil dogcatcher gets Farina's dog, and if he can't raise $5, he will be killed. The kids let a rich kid punch them in the nose for 25 cents each to raise the money, and they get to the dogcatcher just as the dog is about to be killed in a dog version of a gas chamber, and the title cards of this silent movie tell the kids in the audience to clap to help save the dog (in a stage version of Peter Pan running at the same time, the audience is asked to clap to save Tinkerbell's life). This was REALLY heavy stuff for kids!

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster had a 1 1/2" vertical tear in the left of the middle foldline, with small circular paper loss 3" to the right of that, but both of those were in the solid black background area. Otherwise, the poster had only minor wear on the folds. It had some tears and paper loss in the blank borders. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well!
