eMoviePoster.comAuction History Result 9g236 JOHN WAYNE insert '30s great image of John Wayne pointing two guns, Lawless Range, rare! Date Sold 8/18/2016Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Insert Movie Poster (measures 14" x 36" [36 x 91 cm]) (Learn More) an undated (but likely 1935) John Wayne stock insert poster created by Republic Pictures for use by theaters showing John Wayne movies in the 1930s. Note that Mascot Pictures merged into Republic with several other studios around 1935, and John Wayne completed several movies for the new studio. Likely this stock insert was made right at that time with the knowledge that several John Wayne pictures would be coming in the months ahead. We have seen this stock poster promoting multiple John Wayne films but we have never seen a dedicated first release insert for those movies. It is quite likely that there never was a dedicated insert and this stock poster was the only insert created for the films. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that even though this is a "stock" poster, it is incredibly rare! We have never before auctioned one of these inserts (with a great image of John Wayne), but we have seen a different example of this insert with a different Republic title printed at bottom. Note that this poster has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the poster was backed onto a paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (except somewhat heavier). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards, and lobby cards. What IS paperbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. Prior to paperbacking, the poster had tiny pinholes in the center of the top and bottom, with one in each corner and a few near the center of the image. There were some creases, tiny surface paper loss, and faint stains on parts of the folds. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to paperbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well! Learn More about condition grades
