An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More)

Bob Hope, the 1940s (likely late 1940 or 1941) Warner Bros. stock poster ("Your favorite comedian in a comedy knockout"; "By popular demand") featuring artwork of Bob Hope. Hope had appeared in a series of eight musical comedy shorts for Warner Bros between 1934 and 1936. When he became a giant theatrical star in 1940 with Road to Singapore and The Ghost Breakers at Paramount, Warner Bros. cleverly re-released these eight shorts to theaters in late 1940 and early 1941, presenting them as if they were newly made (by them!), with this great "stock" one-sheet with art of Hope by a radio microphone (but to keep them from being sued, they wrote "BY POPULAR DEMAND RE-RELEASED BY WARNER BROS." in tiny letters at the bottom center). Theaters would order this poster and use it when showing any of the eight 1930s Bob Hope Warner Bros. shorts.
NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography.
If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this one-sheet! One-sheets from the 1930s shorts are beyond rare (although we are also auctioning one from the 1934 short, Going Spanish, in a separate auction), and this poster has better art of Hope than the posters for the first release of the shorts.

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster had tiny paper loss at the crossfolds and some tiny bits of paper loss and tiny creases on parts of the folds, with some pinholes and tiny paper loss in the blank borders. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well!
