An Original Vintage German Film Program (measures 8 3/4" x 11 3/4" [22 x 30 cm]; 8 pages) (Learn More)

Pygmalion, the 1935 Erich Engel German romantic comedy (based on the classic 1913 George Bernard Shaw play that "My Fair Lady" was based on, about an upper-class gentleman and his bet that he can teach a lower class girl to speak proper English and thus be taken for a lady) starring Jenny Jugo (as Elisa Doolittle), Gustaf Grundgens (as Professor Higgins), Anton Edthofer (as Oberst Pickering), Eugen Klopfer (as Alfred Doolittle), Hedwig Bleibtreu, and Kathe Haack. Note that while this play had been hugely successful since its first production in 1913, it was not a surprise that it was not made into a silent movie, because so much of the plot revolved around speaking, but it was a surprise that it was not made into an English language movie until 1938, and by that point, there had been this German version (which was the first film adaptation), and a 1937 Dutch version! Also note that it seems odd to us that in this German version, the characters all retained their very English sounding names!
NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography.
Important Added Info: Note that this is a "country of origin" item for this German movie! Also note that we have pictured the front cover, the back cover, and an interior 2-page spread from this program.

Condition: very good.
