An Original Vintage Theatrical Autographed Movie Title Lobby Card (LC TC; measures 10 1/4" x 12 3/4" [26 x 32 cm]) (Learn More) Forty Winks, the 1925 Paul Iribe & Frank Urson silent spy espionage inheritance romantic comedy ("Folks will laugh who have never laughed before!"; "From the play 'Lord Chumley' by David Belasco and Henry C. DeMille"; about the lawyer for a rich family who frames one of the family members for the theft of plans to defend California and also on the Secret Service agent who is engaged to the family's daughter; a prominent role of an "Eurasian Adventuress" is played by Anna May Wong!) starring Viola Dana, Raymond Griffith, Theodore Roberts, Cyril Chadwick, William Boyd, and Anna May Wong. Note that this is a "lost" film which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist. Also note that the play that this movie was based on was co-written by David Belasco and Henry C. DeMille, and that DeMille was the father of famed director Cecil B. DeMille. He is mostly forgotten, except by major film buffs, but the other DeMille might have been a major figure in early cinema. He was a director and producer of plays in the 1880s, and he formed a partnership with David Belasco, another major playwright and producer, but the two had a falling out when DeMille became a "Georgist" (somewhat like a modern day socialist). He planned to devote his life to that, but two years later, he contracted typhoid and died, when young Cecil B. was just 12 years old. Belasco went on to become a major figure in early cinema, and it is quite possible that DeMille's connection to Belasco through his father helped his early career! Our consignor purchased this card from a collector who had obtained these autographs decades ago. He does not have a certificate of authenticity, but we feel certain the signature is authentic. Also note that this lobby card has been trimmed and it now measures 10 1/4" x 12 3/4" [26 x 32 cm]. Finally, note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Note that ANY movie paper items from this movie are incredibly rare. We have only previously auctioned a one-sheet and a herald from this movie (and NO other movie paper) until we received this title card (and we are also auctioning a signed scene card in a separate auction)! As is true of all the signed items we are currently auctioning, we give every buyer 30 days in which to review what they purchased and they can return any item as long as it is within 30 days of the end of the auction. On non-signed items, we give a "lifetime guarantee" on everything we auction, but on signed items, we give the above modified guarantee of 30 days after the auction closes. Condition: good. The card was trimmed on all four sides. Note that this card is completely unrestored and there is not a single piece of tape on either the front or back! Learn More about condition grades
