An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Deluxe 8" x 11" [20 x 28 cm] Key Book Still (Learn More)

Flesh and the Devil, the 1926 Clarence Brown silent romantic love triangle melodrama ("From the novel The Undying Past by Hermann Sudermann"; about a man who becomes obsessed with a woman after just catching a glimpse of her; he doesn't see her for years and when he does, he enrages her husband, who challenges him to a duel, and he kills the husband, and is sent away; while he is gone, his best friend watches after the widow, and when he returns, he discovers his best friend has married her; he still can't resist her, and his friend catches him with his wife, and they agree to have a duel, but while they are about to shoot, they realize the absurdity of it, and throw down their guns and embrace, but the wife, who was coming to stop them, dies on the way!) starring John Gilbert, Greta Garbo, Lars Hanson, Barbara Kent, and William Orlamond. Note that it seems amazing in the present day to realize that John Gilbert was billed above the title in this movie and that Greta Garbo received much inferior second billing (equal to that of third billed Lars Hanson), but of course, this was Greta Garbo's first year in the U.S., and her third American movie, and John Gilbert was a major established star, so he fully deserved his much better billing!

Important Added Info: Note that this still is unlike any key book still we have ever seen (except for one like it, which had different images on the front, and which we auctioned on 1/24/12)! Not only does it have an image of nine great still images joined together (and one has the film title on it), but it also has full credits and a complete plot summary printed on the back! It has been mounted to a linen type material and has an extra 1" to the left of the still, along with two punch holes in that extra area (typical of many key book stills). Note that a knowledgeable collector tells us that he has a Flesh and the Devil keybook still in this style but with different images. The collector has also seen multiple versions of this style of keybook still for other circa 1926 films!

Condition: very good to fine.
