An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More)

The Wizard of Oz, the classic 1939 Victor Fleming family magical fantasy adventure musical ("MGM's miracle musical show of shows!"; "It's Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer's Technicolor triumph!"; "Magnificent in its brilliant Technicolor splendor!"; "At Last It's Here Biggest Sensation Since "Snow White"!"; "The mighty miracle show that is the talk of America!"; "Amazing sights to see! The Tornado, Munchkinland, Horse of a Different Color, Startling Balloon Ascent, The Flying Monkeys, The Tree That Throws Apples"; "Gaiety! Glory! Glamour!"; based on the classic book of the same name by L. Frank Baum; nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award) starring Judy Garland (as Dorothy), Frank Morgan (in the title role as The Wizard of Oz!), Ray Bolger (as The Scarecrow), Bert Lahr (as The Cowardly Lion), Jack Haley (as The Tin Man), Billie Burke (as Glinda, the Good Witch), Margaret Hamilton (as the Wicked Witch), Charley Grapewin, "The Munchkins", and Toto too! Note that MGM was worried about how well this movie would do at the box office, and they did something we don't remember seeing on any other major movie advertising! One of the taglines says "Biggest sensation since Snow White", which means MGM was advertising a Walt Disney movie, but that shows just how worried they were! Of course, they needn't have worried, because this was a timeless classic that has only improved with age.

Important Added Info: Note that original 1939 Wizard of Oz lobby cards were printed with a red color in the border background area and in the bottom studio credit that fades extremely easily. A high percentage of the cards that exist have either a pink color in those areas, and other cards have orange in those areas. This card has red that has slightly changed to a pink color, but not nearly as much as some cards we have seen (the cards with bright red are extremely rare).

Condition: good to very good. The red of the border has changed color slightly (see above). There is a 2" diagonal scuff mark running from the Tin Man's belly to Dorothy's skirt, and there is a faint stain near the middle of Dorothy's skirt. There is a circular stain in the Scarecrow's leg. The card has pinholes in the corners, with small paper loss in the bottom left blank corner. It has a pinhole in the center of each border and a 1" tear in the middle of the left border. It has a faint water stain in the left of the top blank border and faint water staining in the edge of the upper left blank border. This card has a number of defects, as noted above, but it would still display well on anyone's wall, because many of them are in the blank borders. Certainly, any restorer could perform restoration to the above defects if the new owner chose. Note that this lobby card is completely unrestored and there is not a single piece of tape on either the front or back!
